What You Need To Know About Domain Registration, Hosting and Building Web Sites

These are the basic steps toward getting your site posted on the the Internet, that is, having your own “Web presence”.

Registering Your Domain Name

This is an address where anyone can find you on the Internet's World Wide Web ( example: www.mygreatonlinestore.com ). The cost is $15 annually to register and park (reserve) a name for your exclusive, world-wide use -- UNLESS you also elect to subscribe to a hosting plan with us, which would get you your domain name at NO ADDITIONAL COST!

Choosing a Hosting Plan

This is the computer or "server" space where your site will sit, so that anyone in the world can access your site 24 hours a day 7 days a week. EONI offers 3 different hosting options.

• The first two are for business grade sites. Basic and Complete hosting not only allow space for your site, but also give you detailed analysis of site statistics, and allows you up to 20 email addresses at your domain name ( example: info@mygreatnewsite.com ). These hosting plans are priced at $20 monthly for basic hosting and $50 monthly for complete hosting. .
• The third choice for hosting is with your Internet access dial-up account. You are given 10 MB of personal web space where you can upload your site. The personal web site is at no additional charge; however, you do not get any site statistics or email addresses at that space. Also, your personal space has to have the domain name pointed to it. What that means is if you type in the domain name -- www.mygreatonlinestore.com -- it will be redirected to www.eoni.com/~username, which is the address of your personal web space.

THE BLOG ALTERNATIVE: If you need neither a traditional Web site nor a hosting plan, our Blogware offering may be just what you want. This is a do-it-yourself online Web log, known as a "blog", that can be used with or without one of our hosting plans and/or with or without an associated domain name.

Designing the Web Site

You can build your own site (see this do-it-yourself advice, if you are not using the services of an independent Web designer) and upload your pages to the server in accordance with instructions provided when you establish your hosting plan. To do so, you may independently use your own choice of software tools, and do the work entirely on your own. Or take advantage of our Web Builder system that is offered free of additional charges with your Basic Hosting account. Web Builder lets you choose from pre-designed visual design and layout templates, to which you add your own personalization or customization by using simple fill-in-the-blanks forms and point-and-click actions, all from your familiar browser.

If you have opted for our Blogware system, described above, you will have access to fill-in-the-blank and checkbox forms that will let you automatically change layouts, color schemes and other site features.
